Fornea, mixed relay team pocket bronze

MANILA -- Dabawenya Mary Pauline Fornea helped Team Philippines salvage a bronze medal at the close of the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games 2019 duathlon mixed relay race in Subic Bay Thursday, December 5.

Her team with 20-year-old duathlon queen Monica Torres, who clinched the female individual gold medal on December 2, Efrraim Inigo and Emmanuel Comendador clocked a total of one hour, 30 minutes and 35 seconds.

Thailand’s Pareeya Sonsem, Nattawut Srinate, Siriwan Kuncharin and Arthit Soda raced past rivals to capture the gold medal after registering 1:28:48. Singapore’s Emma Middleditch, Ahmad Arif Ibrahim, Herlene Natasha Yu and Nicholas Rachmadi bagged the silver with a time of 1:29:36.

Philippine and Thailand were tied in duathlon’s medal tally with identical one gold, one silver and one bronze followed by 1-0-0 Indonesia, 0-1-0 Singapore and 0-0-1 Vietnam.

The bronze finish ended Fornea’s SEA Games debut.

Other Davao City standouts who also finished competing here include arnis gold medalist Jezebel Morcillo, kurash silver medalist Jenilou Mosqueda, kurash bronze medalist Sydney Sy Tancontian and tennis player Shaira Hope Rivera whose women’s doubles team with top-ranked Marian Jade Capadocia bowed to Vietnam in the preliminary game held December 4 at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
