Gwen tells Camotes Electric Cooperative: Improve power supply

A POWER distributor has reportedly failed to supply enough electricity to several Camotes Islands residents in nearly three decades.

Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia has learned that the Camotes Electric Cooperative (Celco)—the lone power supplier in the island—failed to upgrade its distribution lines in the past 28 years.

To solve this problem, the governor will meet with Celco and the National Power Corporation (NPC) officials next week.

Garcia said Celco must upgrade its distribution lines so it could provide sufficient electricity to the island.

Celco reportedly earns about P6 million per month. Fifty percent of its income goes to salaries, allowances and operational costs.

Garcia said Celco could use P3 million in improving its distribution lines.

She asked Celco to give her its statement of accounts to find out how the company spends or distributes its income.

The governor also wants to learn the power distributor’s measures in solving the problem by next week. (ANV / KAL)
