Labor department reminds employers of workers’ 13th month pay

THE Department of Labor and Employment (Dole)-Western Visayas Thursday, December 5, reminded employers in the region to give the 13th month bonus to their workers.

Dole-Western Visayas director Cyril Ticao said the bonus should be given on or before December 25.

Ticao pointed out under Presidential Decree No. 851, all employers are required to give their 13th month pay to workers, whatever their type of employment is.

Ticao also encouraged workers in the region to approach their nearest Dole office if their employers refuse to give their 13th month bonus.

Government employees are set to receive an additional bonus in the coming weeks after President Rodrigo Duterte authorized the grant of Service Recognition Incentive (SRI) to government employees for Fiscal Year 2019.

Duterte, in his Administrative Order (AO) 19 signed on Dec. 2, said the grant of the one-time incentive sought “to recognize and further encourage the unwavering commitment and dedication of government employees in performing their work, their continued support and collaborative efforts in the delivery of services to the public, as well as their diligence in the effective and efficient performance of their respective functions.”

Under AO 19, the civilian and military personnel of the executive department shall be granted an SRI of a uniform rate not exceeding P10,000.
