2 suspected Abu Sayyaf bandits nabbed

TWO suspected members of the Abu Sayyaf Group were arrested as they tried to block the highway linking two of the 19 towns in Sulu, a top military official said Friday, December 6.

Major General Corleto Vinluan, Jr., Joint Task Force Sulu commander, identified them as Rano Jillang and Medzfar Aminulla, who were arrested by the troops of the Army’s 2nd Special Forces Battalion around 3 p.m. Thursday in Gagguil Village, Panglima Estino town.

They were turned over to the police for the filing of formal charges against them.

Vinluan said the arrest of the two came after the residents in the area reported that there are two gunmen blocking the provincial highway that connects the municipalities of Panamao and Luuk.

He said seized from the possessions of Jillang and Aminulla were two high-powered firearms consisting of an M-16 Armalite and an M-14 rifles with magazines and ammunition and two grenades.

He said investigation is also being conducted to confirm their affiliation with the Abu Sayyaf and the motive which they blocked the provincial highway. (SunStar Zamboanga)
