THE holidays, it’s a good reason to celebrate. For the tourism stakeholders of Davao Region there was more. Each player’s role contributed to boost the industry. For that, each deserved a pat on the back—and get recognized for it.
Every yearend, the Department of Tourism (DOT) regional office gathers the hardworking teams of the Davao Region to congratulate everyone for a job well done—and celebrate accomplishments.
This year’s affair was quite unexpected, filled with surprises. To start, it was a well-attended affair. Although all DOT-11 yearend events are deemed successful, this one though takes the cake. A bigger venue, a grand ballroom to be precise, was filled with guests in their formal interpretation of Mindanao weaves.
I like it when a host makes extra effort dress up a venue like they do when hosting major events for visiting guests. This affair is no less important, the guests deserved the honor and respect. Everything was perfect—the program was concise, comprehensive and seamless, leaving more time to party and mingle with peers.
The gathering gives the regional director the stage to present the accomplishments of the region. This 2019 presentation was impressive. It was short and comprehensive. The DOT-Davao team took a more engaging route with the aid of a well-presented visual presentation.
Mindanao culture also takes center stage in these events. But rather than picking a tribe or two, the performers wove threads of the 11 tribes of the region into one tapestry of colorful cultural fabric illustrated through dance and music. Aided with visuals, the outcome was impressive. Now, if it can wow the locals, who are familiar with such presentation, what more the world audience.
It’s a team effort, acknowledged DOT Regional Director Tanya Rabat Tan, “(We are) Lucky to have as partners very supportive private stakeholders, LGUs, NGAs and our media friends. We work as ONE!”
Indeed, it’s a group effort. For everyone’s hard work in lifting the tourism industry of the region, the DOT regional office saluted everyone involved and introduced the leaders and their teams and the DOT-Davao staff as well.
Leading the ceremonial toast, Tanya Tan said, “Today, we are grateful to have you all as our strong support and foundation in making 2019 tourism a success for the tourism industry. To everyone, let’s raise our glasses and as one, claim the greatness of Davao tourism industry this 2020.”
Congratulations, Davao!
