Kalibo vice mayor bats for terminal market

KALIBO Vice Mayor Cynthia Dela Cruz is pushing for a construction of the new terminal market building in this ati-atihan town of Kalibo, Aklan.

In September this year, a fire broke out inside the current Kalibo Public and Wet Market at Barangay Andagao here. Almost half of the market had been razed by fire.

“Earlier, Kalibo Mayor Emerson Lachica together with the committee on finance agreed to buy a lot in a suitable place outside Poblacion Kalibo and to construct a new bigger terminal market in less than two years,” Dela Cruz said.

“The plan is with the new bigger Kalibo Terminal Market outside Poblacion, the Old market will be transferred to its new location and the old one after it will be rebuilt will be named as the Kalibo Central Market or the new business hub of this town,” she added.

The terminal market is a central site, often in a metropolitan area, that serves as an assembly and trading place for commodities. Terminal markets for agricultural commodities are usually at or near major transportation hubs.

At present, the committee on finance is looking for a suitable location in Kalibo which could be used as the site for a terminal market building. (SunStar Philippines)
