Siquijor, San Remigio get awards from population commission

THE Siquijor Provincial Government was awarded as the most outstanding province in implementing the Philippine Population and Management Program (PPMP) in Central Visayas.

Hilmer Ongue was honored as the most outstanding provincial population officer in the region.

The Municipality of San Remigio was adjudged as the most outstanding municipality in implementing the PPMP with Zenaida Cabague as the most outstanding municipal population officer.

The two local government units (LGUs) and their respective population officers were awarded on Nov. 14, 2019 at the Montebello Villa Resort in Cebu City.

Siquijor Vice Gov. Mei Ling Brown and San Remigio Mayor Mariano Martinez accepted the awards from the Commission on Population and Development 7 Director Bruce Ragas and Assistant Director Darlynn Remolino.

Annual awards

The PPMP awards are done annually. These were given for the first time five years ago.

The 61 awards for this year recognized the efforts of population officers and partners in Central Visayas who have been at the frontline services, seminars and related activities on Responsible Parenthood and Family Planning (RPFP), Adolescent Health Development (AHD) and Population Development integration.

A new award, the “Kaunlarang Pantao (Human Development),” was also given to San Remigio’s Cabague and Susan Minguez of Bogo City. Minguez was also cited as outstanding city population officer.

Other awards that were celebrated with the LGUs’ population officers, youth leaders, advocates and partners were on Population and Development Integration, RPFP, AHD Peer Educators, Peer Networks, Peer Advocates, AHDP Initiative, Social Media Advocacy, Policy Advocacy, Ka-TROPA Implementation, Functional Teen Centers with Services and service awards that included retirees.

The Commission on Population and Development is now in its 51st year. It has been an integral part in designing the macroeconomic agenda of the country to address the needs of the Philippine population and empowering families for a bright future.
