A WOMAN created a scene inside one of the malls in Cebu City after she berated and assaulted a promodizer on Saturday night, Dec. 7, 2019.

The attack was caught on video and posted on social media. The post already has more than one million views, 18,000 reactions and has been shared 37,000 times.

Police identified the attacker as Medelina Yamazaki, a native of Negros Occidental who is married to a Japanese national.

The 33-year-old Yamazaki went wild because she thought the promodizer, 26-year-old Jennifer Fabillar, had touched her baby.

The incident, which happened around 7 p.m., had attracted a crowd.

Aside from heaping verbal abuse on Fabillar, Yamazaki also threw several items at her, one of which landed on her face.

“The promodizer of the fragrance stall complained that a humidifier was thrown at her. Accordingly, they were having a misunderstanding regarding the use of the said unit and the customer suddenly flew into a rage and threw it at her,” said Major Dindo Alaras, chief of the Mabolo Police Station.

In one of the videos of the incident, though, Fabillar was overheard denying that she touched Yamazaki’s baby.

“The security supervisor of the mall called us to respond and it was evident on the videos and physical appearance of the complainant that she (Fabillar) was really injured,” Alaras said.

Fabillar suffered a wound in the lower left eye and a bruise that made her cheek swollen.

“The point of the police is she (Yamazaki) really caused an injury. If she has complaints on the way the promodizer was treating her, she should have formally reported it to the management of the fragrance company where she will be entertained and not result to hurting someone and cause a scene,” Alaras told SunStar Cebu.

According to one of Fabillar’s colleagues, the whole thing started when the victim told Yamazaki not to let her baby touch the humidifier. Fabillar was afraid the baby would damage it. She was also afraid the baby would get an electric shock.

Apparently, Yamazaki, who was accompanied by her husband, took it the wrong way and started cursing Fabillar.

“I will kill you,” she told the promodizer.

After the incident, the Yamazakis left the mall. The matter, though, was reported to the police who went and looked for the couple on Sunday, Dec. 8. They found the Yamazakis in one of the condominium buildings near the mall.

Police placed Yamazaki under arrest and brought her to the Mabolo Police Station, where she is detained pending the filing of charges against her on Monday, Dec. 9.

SunStar Cebu tried to interview Yamazaki, but she allegedly could not talk and had lost her voice.

Asked if she was just protecting her baby, Yamazaki nodded.

As for Fabillar, she is recuperating from her injuries. A group of lawyers approached and offered to represent her pro bono. However, she has opted to let the fragrance company help her with the filing of cases against Yamazaki. Her employer also promised to help her with her hospital bills.

Fabillar has been a promodizer with the fragrance company for the last five years. (JOB)
