Suspected ninja cop killed in drug bust

A RETIRED police officer was killed in a drug bust in Quezon City in the early hours of Monday, December 9.

Former police corporal Tirso Agustin Lactaotao, 48, allegedly engaged the arresting officers in a gunfight at about 12:25 a.m. Monday in Barangay Nova Proper in Quezon City.

A report from the Philippine National Police (PNP) Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG), it said the operation stemmed from intelligence information about Lactaotao, who was allegedly involved in illegal drugs activities even before he retired from the service.

Police said the operation resulted in an armed encounter after Lactaotao, who optionally retired on November 2019, engaged the cops in a gunfight.

“The operation resulted in an armed encounter when the subject, upon sensing that he is dealing with a PNP poseur buyer, suddenly drew his gun and fired towards the operatives, prompting them to defend themselves and fire back hitting the suspect on the different parts of his body,” the IMEG said.

The police report said the suspect was operating in Rizal province and nearby provinces.

Recovered during the operation were Lactaotao's identification cards, a caliber 9mm Beretta pistol with PNP marks and seven sachets of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu). (SunStar Philippines)
