UV defeats USJ-R in Minglanilla Mayor's Cup

THE reigning champions University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers debuted in style in the 2019 Minglanilla Mayor's Cup Inter-Collegiate Christmas League as they defeated the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars, 100-86, at the Minglanilla Sports Complex on Sunday, December 8, 2019.

Veteran forward Melvin Butohan had the game of his life as he exploded for 33 points to lead the Green Lancers in their victorious debut. Jiesel Tarrosa added 14 markers while Ted Saga came up with 13 points.

UV is trying to get its footing back after its three-year reign atop the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) ended last month at the hands of Southwestern University-Phinma.

USJ-R is also trying to create a formidable squad after it finished dead last in the standings in the Cesafi this season. Elmer Echavez scored 20 points to lead the Jaguars.
