A MEMBER of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) was arrested by policemen after he allegedly pointed a gun at a civilian after having a heated altercation Saturday during a drinking session in Catalunan Grande, Davao City.

Talomo police arrested the military officer identified as Sergeant Stephen Alintano Balquedra, 32, married, assigned at 6th Scout Ranger Company, 2nd Scout Ranger Battalion (SRB), based in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur and resident of Catalunan Grande, Davao City.

A rock island armory caliber .45 with one magazine loaded with eight pieces of live ammunition were recovered from his possession.

Based on the investigation, Balquedra and the complainant named Loriel Mejias Ycong, 41, married, supervisor and resident of Sta. Martha, Catalunan Grande, were having a drinking session at Loloy billiard hall when a heated altercation ensued between the two.

The soldier then went home after the altercation but returned with the firearm. He allegedly struck the complainant's head with the weapon and subsequently pointed the gun at Ycong.

"Witness immediately called for police assistance that was on a post near the area and successfully pacified the situation. Respondent failed to present pertinent documents to prove the legality of the possessed firearm," the report said.

The suspect is now under temporary custody of Talomo Police Station for proper disposition, while the complainant was likewise advised to secure a medical certificate to back his complaint.

Early this year, President Rodrigo Duterte issued a marching order, prohibiting members of the police and military from drinking in public places, in an effort to prevent them from being involved in trouble when they get drunk.
