FOR second year in a row, Davao City Central 911 won Best Government Emergency Response Management System in the recently concluded 21st Gawad Kalasag.

Kalasag, which stands for Kalamidad at Sakuna Labanan, Sariling Galing ang Kaligtasan, is a recognition given to Central 911 for its exemplary performance in the field of emergency response management.

The award was received by Central 911 chief operations officer Emmanuel R. Jaldon on behalf of the City Government of Davao on Friday, December 6, during the National Awarding Ceremony held at PICC in Manila.

Jaldon, on Monday, December 9, during the flag raising ceremony at the City Hall of Davao, thanked the local government for supporting the emergency response unit.

He also thanked President Rodrigo Duterte who created the Central 911 back when he was still the city mayor in 2003.

City Administrator Zuleika Lopez, in her speech, also thanked all heads of the emergency medical services and security cluster for their effort in serving the Dabawenyos, especially for their emergency response.

"Hopefully next year, if we get it again, hall of famer na ang Davao City," Lopez said.

Gawad Kalasag is organized by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), giving recognition to local government units and humanitarian groups for their exemplary service in Disaster Risk Management (DRM) and Humanitarian Assistance.

It was conceived to protect or shield high-risk communities against hazards by encouraging participation of various stakeholders in designing and implementing DRM programs.

It also promotes the spirit of volunteerism among agencies and individuals in providing the much needed help during the response phase of DRM.
