Oro names 'Most PWD-Friendly Barangays'

BARANGAY Camaman-an in Cagayan de Oro City was hailed as the top village in the City Government's first ever search for the “Most PWD (Persons with disabilities)-Friendly Barangay.”

City Administrator Teddy Sabuga-a said the search was launched to ensure that every corner of the city is friendly to persons with disabilities, from governance, health, education, infrastructure, participation, and social protection -- the engagement pillars identified for the search.

The city names Barangay Cugman as 2nd placer followed by barangay Puntod and Lapasan which both tied at 3rd place.

Barangay Camaman-an received P30,000, followed by P20,000 and P15,000 for barangays Cugman, barangay Puntod, and Lapasan respectively.

Meanwhile, the city also recognized the barangays which excelled in each of the engagement pillars. Barangay Cugman is hailed as the Best in Governance, barangay Iponan was Best in Health, barangay 14 as the Best in Barangay Participation, and Barangay Camaman-an was recognized as Best in Education, Infrastructure, and Social Protection. All of them will receive P10,000 each for the special awards.

The search aims to assess the present condition of the PWDs in their respective barangays, to improve whatever needs to be done, to recognize the efforts barangays are initiating and doing for the sector in making its services as inclusive as possible, and encouraging the other barangays in the city to perform better each year, transforming the developed policies into a holistic development.
