Real property tax drives income up

THE Provincial Government has already exceeded its P729.3 million target for locally sourced revenues this year, two months before the books of accounts close.

Provincial Treasurer Roy Salubre on Monday, Dec. 9, 2019, said the Capitol collected P740.4 million between January and October 2019.

This means revenues for the first 10 months were already P11.1 million or 1.5 percent higher than the income target for the whole year.

“Our intensified collections of real property tax (RPT) is really a huge factor, especially with the support of Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia,” Salubre said.

Measures to intensify RPT collection include constant reminders to taxpayers and going after delinquent ones, Salubre said.

In terms of tax revenues, the Province had set an annual target collection of P149.4 million.

Aside from RPT, tax revenues also include collections from amusement, franchise, professional and property transfer, among others.

For the first 10 months of the year, the Province collected P176.4 million in taxes. Collection from RPT made up P72.1 million, which is higher than the P68.9 million the Province had targeted for this year.

The Capitol collected P7.1 million in fines and penalties for RPT, which is higher than the P5.4 million target.

The Capitol also collected P291.1 million from district hospitals during the same period. Its target collection this year is P350 million.

Salubre said they expect the number to rise since they still have to add the income for November and December.

Revenues from district hospitals include a 20 percent share of the income of a Manila-based health care provider specializing in digital radiology, as well as medical, dental and laboratory fees and hospital fees.

At the Cebu South Bus Terminal (CSBT), the Capitol collected P56.7 million, which is lower than its target of P65.7 million for the whole year.

With the holiday season around the corner, Salubre said they expect the income to go up as passengers flock to the terminal.

CSBT collections cover toll and terminal fees and stall rentals, among others. (RTF)
