THE Talisay City Government will give recognition to Miss Universe Philippines Gazini Ganados, who made it to the top 20 in this year’s Miss Universe competition held in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

Mayor Gerald Anthony Gullas Jr. said Ganados gave the city great pride and honor.

The fashion model, who was crowned Binibining Pilipinas 2019, is also known to advocate care for the elderly and human immunodeficiency virus and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome research.

The Philippines’ Catriona Gray took the Miss Universe crown last year.

Zozibini Tunzi of South Africa was crowned Miss Universe 2019. Miss Puerto Rico Madison Anderson was first runner-up, while Miss Mexico Sofia Aragon was second runner-up.

“Even though she didn’t reach the Top 10, for us, Gazini (Ganados) will be forever our own Miss Universe. I assured Gazini that even if she came home empty-handed, the people of Talisay City would always look at her as their queen,” said Gullas.

The mayor plans to meet with the City Council to determine what recognition to grant Ganados.

“She really deserves to be recognized as representing the Philippines. Being on the top 20 and being a Talisaynon is an accomplishment itself,” Gullas said.

The Talisay City Government installed a big screen in the people’s hall inside the Talisay City Hall so the public could watch and cheer for Ganados, who holds a degree in tourism management and health care services from the University of San Jose-Recoletos in Cebu City. (FMD, RGT)
