THERE’S new music coming your way from the Wonggoys on Dec. 15.

Stay tuned as its lyric video will be published on the 22 Tango Records Facebook page at 8 PM. It will also be available for streaming on Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music and other popular digital music streaming platforms.

“AKO” is the latest single of this Cebuano band of brothers. It is their second Bisaya song after their 2018 hit “Way Blema.” A not-so-typical love song, AKO (colloquially, “Me” in Cebuano) is a bold declaration of volunteering oneself to a love interest trapped in an unfortunate relationship.

“Kinsa may nakasuway na’g pangilog og uyab diri?” (Who has tried stealing someone’s girlfriend here?) lead vocalist Gabe Wong asked the crowd the first time they performed this in a live gig. Beneath guitar distortions, heavy synthesizers and Wonggoys’ signature three-part vocal arrangement that listeners have come to love, the track, to its core, simple says, “I can take care of you better.”

An obvious departure from their Jason Mraz-inspired folk-acoustic sound, AKO is a pop rock ballad with a tinge of—wait for it—hip-hop! How this concoction works, music producer Cattski Espina explains that the boys have always had a hip-hop influence but never had the chance to express it. “With this track, it came out naturally. It did not sound forced that’s why it works,” said Espina.

AKO is written and composed by the brothers themselves – Gabe, Billy and Kyle Wong. The song was recorded, mixed and mastered at Room Eleven Recording Studio and released under 22 Tango Records.
