Fire hits San Miguel warehouse

A FIRE broke out in a storage area of San Miguel Brewery Inc. in Barangay Quebiawan, City of San Fernando Monday noon, December 9.

Bureau of Fire Protection City Director Rhoderick Marquez said the fire was reported around 12:45 p.m. and lasted for more than 10 hours.

"The fire originated from one side of the stretch of the storage area and the one containing the cases of beer was badly hit," he said.

Marquez said he declared the fire under control around 2 p.m., and fire out shortly after 10 p.m.

"We were able to contain the fire easily but I wasn't able to declare fire out until 10 p.m. because we needed to ensure that it is safe to the ground," he said.

The cause of the fire, however, is still being determined as of December 10, as investigation is ongoing, Marquez said.

No casualty was reported during the incident as employees were immediately asked to evacuate to a safer area, but damage to property was initially estimated at P15 million.
