Abducted Chinese woman in Makati a Pogo employee

POLICE said the Chinese woman who was abducted in Makati City on Monday evening is an employee of a Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (Pogo).

Makati City Police chief Colonel Rogelio Simon identified the woman as Zhou Mae.

Zhou was forced into a van by unidentified suspects along Paseo de Roxas in Makati City late Monday night.

Simon urged Zhou’s husband, identified as Chen Tangbin, to coordinate with the police on the conduct of an investigation and rescue of his wife.

He said they have yet to receive a formal complaint on the incident, a video clip of which went viral after several netizens caught the incident on camera.

He said they have yet to locate Chen.

"Makipag-cooperate sa amin. Huwag siyang magpadala ng kaibigan lang niya dito na hindi nakakaalam ng detalye. Para appropriate din 'yung intervention natin kung sakali," Simon said.

Simon said they do not consider yet the incident as kidnapping as the men who took Zhou have yet to demand ransom in exchange of the victim’s release.

Earlier, National Capital Region Police Office acting director Brigadier General Debold Sinas said they suspect that the incident is another case of debt-related abduction.

Similar case in the past involved Chinese nationals abducting fellow countrymen who owe them money to force the latter's family to pay up. (SunStar Philippines)
