La Trinidad is Nat’l Gawad Kalasag Awardee

BENGUET’S capital town of La Trinidad bagged the National Gawad Kalasag Award for the first to third class municipalities category.

During the 21st National Gawad Kalasag Awarding on December 6, Mayor Romeo Salda, who also chairs the La Trinidad Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council together with local officials, and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management officer Yoshio Labi received the award at the Philippine International Convention Center in Metro Manila.

“Out of the 1,400 municipalities, La Trinidad received for the second time for the National Gawad Kalasag,” Salda said in his speech.

The chief executive said the P500,000 cash award received by the town will be utilized for improvement of facilities, purchase of additional equipment and sustain programs, projects and activities in the Benguet town for Disaster Risk Reduction Management.

In the Gawad Kalasag Award in the regional level last month, the town also bagged first place in the same category.

Gawad Kalasag stands for Kalamidad at Sakuna Labanan, Sariling Galing ang Kaligtas was launched as the country’s primier recognition scheme to different stakeholders that design and implement Disaster Risk Reduction and Management progras that protect and shield high risk communities against hazards.

In the Cordillera, awardees also include University of Cordilleras, Epiphany Christian Academy, and Mountain Province Disaster Risk Reduction and Management.
