DPWH to upgrade streetlights at Circumferential Road

THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will upgrade the streetlights system at the Circumferential Road of Bacolod-Silay Airport Access Road in 2020.

Bacolod City District Engineer Abraham Villareal said Tuesday, December 10, that some of the streetlights in the area were unoperational because their wirings were already stolen by unidentified perpetrators.

He said the streetlights were located between the boundary of Bacolod and Talisay cities, which stretches to one kilometer.

He said he already talked to Representative Greg Gasataya for the implementation of this project in 2020.

Villareal noted that they will install solar-powered light-emitting diode streetlights in the area and they requested a total of P40 million to improve and develop the area to ensure the safety of the motorists.

The City Council also earlier approved a resolution urging the City Engineer's Office to upgrade the streetlight system by installing solar-powered light emitting diode (LED) streetlights in the city.

Solar street lights are raised light sources that are powered by solar panels generally mounted on the lighting structure or integrated in the pole itself.

The solar panels charge on a rechargeable battery, which powers a fluorescent or LED lamp during the night.
