THE Senate passed a resolution on Monday, December 9, honoring Police Senior Master Sergeant Jason Magno, who died while saving lives of civilians by containing the grenade blast at Initao College in Initiao, Misamis Oriental on November 28.

Senator Sonny Angara, the author of the resolution, said the Senate commends Magno for sacrificing his life to save others.

"Hindi biro ang sakripisyo ni P/SMS Magno (Magno's sacrifice is no joke). Hindi po maipapatas sa anumang parangal ang kanyang nagawa, subalit, sa ganitong pagkakataon, karapat-dapat po ang paggawad sa kanila ng pagkilala dahil sa kanyang natatanging kabayanihan (No award can equate what he did, but, in this opportunity, it's right to award him with this recognition for his unique heroism)," he said.

The Senate said Magno is a figure of selfishness and has shown extraordinary bravery and heroism.

"Hereby resolved, by the Senate of the Philippines to honor the heroism of Magno for his valiant acts in the performance of his duty which saved the lives of students and innocent civilians from the grenade explosion inside the Initao College and to express profound sympathy to his bereaved family," the resolution reads.

Magno died while trying to disarm the person who ran amok with a knife and a grenade.

Magno reached the grenade with his own body to contain the blast.
