Moreno considers running for guv in 2022 polls

CAGAYAN de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno said Tuesday night, December 10, that he is seriously considering running for governor of Misamis Oriental in the 2022 elections.

"I'm seriously considering. I have not made my decision yet but of course, I would be lying to you if I tell you nga wala ko na huna-hunaa (that I don't think about it). Seriously, I'm thinking about it," Moreno said.

He said he is still unsure about his choice for vice governor and has not identified the candidates to complete his slate.

"Actually, wala pa gyud kay lisod man kaayo nga unahon nimo na (There's none, because it's hard to put it first). Didto na pag if the decision will have finally been reached," Moreno said.

"When I make my decision, that's when the talks will officially begin," he added.

Moreno also remarked that City Vice Mayor Rainier Joaquin "Kikang" Uy is suitable to run as congressman.

"Angayan man sad sya diha (He's very suitable) with his exposure as vice mayor, pwede na sya kaayo didto sa kongreso (he could be in congress already)," he said.

The mayor said the big challenge that a governor will be facing is the health agenda, especially with the implementation of the Universal Health Care program.

"Ang bigger mission is sa probinsya para sa health agenda kay luoy kaayo ang hospital services sa probinsya. Lahi biya ning Universal Health Care Program kay tanan nga rural health units will now be under the control of the provincial governor," Moreno said.

"Luoy kaayo ang probinsya kun dili maatiman (It's pitiful if the province is not taken care of). So that is a big challenge," he added.

Moreno is serving his last term as the city's top official.
