Allowance for SK officials studied

A CABINET member of President Rodrigo Duterte assured the government is working double time to give allowance to Sangunniang Kabataan (SK) or Youth Council officials.

Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, during the Kasama conference in Baguio City attended by Sanguniang Kabataan officials in the country, explained measures are now being done for SK members to finally have their allowance.

“We are pushing for the passage of a legislation that would allow Sanguniang Kabataan members to have their own allowance aside from the SK Chairmen who receives their own honorariums. We are also pushing for youth empowerment under the Duterte administration which is very important through programs that would help the Youth wherever they may be to be contributors to society,” Nograles said.

The Kasama summit is an event for the youth for them to conduct or create programs to address the needs in their own areas.

“Our call for the SK officials is for you to gather more knowledge in this youth summit so that when you return to your own barangays, you will be able to do the best practices and ideas being done by your counterparts,” Nograles said.

The cabinet secretary recommended to members of the SK to innovate programs they plan in their barangays and should not rely on programs like Mr. and Ms. pageants or sports tournament.

“We hope that since our SK officials are now matured based on the age, projects now should level up which you will implement in your places. Let us think international and not only local because us in the Philippines is a part of the United Nations which is pushing for sustainable development goals, and when we think of programs of the youth, let us think of programs in consonance with the development goals of the UN because the youth is considered as community leaders, social entrepreneurs, and change makers not only nationally but internationally,” Nograles added.
