Bacolod raises barangay health workers’ allowance

THE Bacolod City Council approved on second reading an ordinance amending section 1 of City Ordinance 09-17-806 Series of 2017 or an Ordinance increasing the allowance of the city paid barangay health workers (BHW) in the city.

Councilor Cindy Rojas, chairperson of the City Council committee on family and care development, said Thursday, December 13, the amended ordinance was approved during their regular session at the City Council on Wednesday.

She said Section 1 of CO No. 09-17-806 provided that the BHW shall receive a monthly allowance of P4,000, and this will “be amended that they will receive a monthly allowance of P4, 500.

“The barangay health worker’s current allowance is not sufficient to cover the daily expenses of our health workers in the performance of their duties and responsibilities to the people of Bacolod,” she added.

Rojas noted that Bacolod has a total of 221 city paid BHW.

Rojas disclosed that the BHWs are the front-liners who provide health care services and programs not only of the city bit also of the barangays in order to make sure that the population is healthy,” she added. (MAP)
