P8.8-M drugs destroyed thru thermal incineration

A TOTAL of P8.8 million of dangerous drugs were destroyed Thursday, December 12, through thermal incineration at Gegato-Abecia Crematorium in Jaro, Iloilo.

The activity was led by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and Police Regional Office in Western Visayas.

PDEA chief for Western Visayas Alex Tablate led the destruction of more than 1,000 grams of “shabu” (methamphetamine hydrochloride) amounting to P7,180, 228.80, marijuana weighing 659.4489 grams with street value of P65,944.00 and expired drugs with an aggregate amount of P1,590,568.52.

A total of P8, 849, 942.21 of these dangerous drugs were destroyed by thermal burning by virtue of the guidelines set forth in the Dangerous Drugs Board Regulation No. 1, Series of 2002 and of Section 21 of Republic Act 9165, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Police Colonel Marlon Tayaba, regional chief for Directorial Staff and Police Colonel Harold Tuzon, Deputy Regional Director for Operations, PRO-Western Visayas were present in behalf of Regional Police Director, Brigadier General Rene Pamuspusan, together with representatives from the Regional Crime Laboratory, Dangerous Drugs Board, Department of Justice (Prosecutor’s Office), non-governmental organizations, elected local officials and media counterparts.

PDEA and PRO stated that the destruction initiative was a great way to cap off the year and expressed their continued partnership against the proliferation of illegal drugs in Western Visayas. (TDE)
