Tracing Kaohsiung’s food and accommodation

FEEDING the hungry stomach and letting the body rest in a good place is always a must when visiting places in the city of Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

Here are some good finds for your escapade.

Night Market

Seafood is not always new to a city known as Taiwan’s Maritime capital. Many can be found in the busy night markets of the city where most of them serve seafood found swimming in fish tanks.

Sellers catch fresh oysters, shrimps, lobster, fish, eels, and are served either grilled or in a hot pot.

There are many recommendations for other night markets in Taiwan one of the most popular in the bustling is Kaisyuan (Kaixuan) Night Market located at Qianzhen District.

The night market operates from 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. and serves variety of local snacks and specialties topped with its grilled pork nuckles, braised duck and variety of pastries.

For desert, some would always opt for milk teas served with homemade brown sugar pearls at 40 to 50 Taiwanese dollars and Rabbit, Snow Q, and Dog Jelly made available with cocoa, matcha, milk tea flavors containing no preservatives that can be acquired from 35 to 80 TWD.

A must try is the stinky tofu of the city that has strong aroma topped with cabbage.

Kaohsiung Port Warehouse and Spicy Beef noodles

If one seeks to escape from the night markets, dining in Kaohsiung Port Warehouse No. 2 is always an option.

It has rich history of over a hundred years which is restored and to date utilized for arts, exhibits and dining.

After visiting Lotus Lake that is home to numerous temples, refill your strength with beef noodles (160 TWD) available with spicy and non-spicy flavors at Mei-Hua noodles restaurant.

The place found across the Tiger and Dragon Pagoda features various flowers in its interior and serves side dishes from blanched vegetables, spicy braised tofu and soft dumplings.

1300 Porcelain

Further south of Kaohsiung is 1300 Porcelain, a fine-dining restaurant filled with porcelain from its interior to its plates, cups, bowls, tables, comfort rooms among others. Next to the resto is a museum full of ceramics costing millions of Taiwanese dollars.

1300 Porcelain was launched in 2010 owned by Henry Shen who studied ceramics from well-known professors with his career dedicated to ceramics and now an art director and sculptor.

Heat’N Chill

For buffet, most popular in Kaohsiung is the Heat’N Chill in E-DA Royal Hotel serving fusion of cuisines including western, Chinese and Japanese.

Dining in the cozy restaurant include wide selection of desserts and innovative menus.

Hotels

Found in Dashu Distrct is luxury hotel E-DA Royal that has 656 luxury guest rooms from superior family room, deluxe, premier, scenic fusion suite and offers executive lounge. It has 6,612 square meter leisure center comprised of water spa pool, kurhaus, outdoor swimming pool and sauna.

The E-DA world, a five-star recreational resort and hotel with diverse facilities such as theme park, mall, cinema, sports arena, art and ecological park.

Visiting Kaohsiung has been brought closer to the Philippines through AirAsia opening its new direct flights from Clark, Cebu and Manila.

AirAsia flies three times a week, every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday towards Kaohsiung International Airport.

Kaohsiung is AirAsia’s 10th international destination from the country launched in October 2018 in Manila and August this year for Clark and Cebu.
