Close to 4,000 PWDs in Mandaue City to receive cash aid

CHRISTMAS will be merry for Mandaue City’s persons with disabilities (PWD) sector as they will receive P5,000 in cash aid from the City on Monday, Dec. 16, 2019.

Around 3,800 PWDs will receive the cash assistance from the city, said Mayor Jonas Cortes.

Cortes announced the matter during the city’s Christmas tree lighting ceremony at City Hall last Dec. 4, 2019.

Michael Pielago, Mandaue City Persons with Disability Affairs Office (MCPDAO) head, said that on Monday, they have prepared a short program for their members at Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex for the one-day distribution of the cash assistance.

Pielago said that if some members failed to receive the assistance during the scheduled distribution, they may still claim it at the Mandaue City Treasurer’s Office.

For the convenience of their members, Pielago said they have designated places around the city for claiming their cash assistance, especially for those living in barangays far from the City Complex.

“For members that live in far-flung barangays, the City has clustered nearby barangays where they can claim their cash assistance,” Pielago said in Cebuano.

He added that registered PWDs from each barangay were already informed where to claim their assistance according to their clusters.

Those PWDs that were able to register this year will not be able receive their assistance on Monday, but they will be entitled to it next year, he said.

Pielago said they are also checking their current records if there are registered PWDs that were already deceased or if they no longer have disabilities due to medical intervention.

He added that they usually conduct validation on their members every three years to see if they are still entitled to the cash aid provided by the City. / KFD
