Capitol to public: Buy food instead of firecrackers

THE Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental is urging the public to, as much as possible, avoid buying firecrackers to prevent firecracker-related incidents during the celebration of Christmas and New Year.

Provincial Information Office head Carlo Dugaduga said instead of buying firecrackers and fireworks, money should be spent buying food for Noche Buena and New Year's feast.

"Malipay pa ang mga mahal sa kinabuhi kaysa mopalit ta sa mga pabuto nga wala ta kabalo maka cause og aksidente ug insidente during sa Pasko ug Bag-ong Tuig," Dugaduga said.

(Our loved ones would be more delighted (if we buy food), rather than buying firecrackers which may cause accidents and incidents during Christmas and New Year.)

The Police Regional Office (PRO) - Northern Mindanao last week listed some of the illegal firecrackers, which include Piccolo, Watusi, Giant Whistle Bomb, Giant Bawang, Large Judas Belt, Super Lolo, Super Thunder, Atomic Bomb, Atomic Bomb Triangulo, Abuga, Goodbye Earth, Goodbye Bading, Hello Columbia and others that contain more than 0.2 grams of powder.

Those who are caught selling the banned firecrackers will have their items confiscated and their stalls closed.

In case of incidents, Dugaduga said that they have already coordinated with the police and disaster offices to put plans and strategies in place for the preparation of the upcoming holiday season.

Likewise, the provincial government has also tapped the health workers in the hospitals and health centers in the province.

"Sa atong mga health personnel sa nagkadiayang hospital nga kinahanglan na duna gyuy available nga personnel during the holidays, naay available nga tambal during the holidays," Dugaduga said.

(Health personnel should be on duty in various hospitals during the holidays. There must also be available medicine.)
