Santisima hands Dacquel his 4th straight loss

JEO Santisima stopped former regional champion Rene Dacquel in four rounds in the main event of the ALA On Tour--“Bakbakan sa Bogo” on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019, in Bogo City.

Santisima outgunned Dacquel, who was on the defense the whole night. Dacquel, a former Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation and World Boxing Council Youth champion, sat on his stool and didn’t want to continue in the fourth round.

The 23-year-old Santisima improved to 18-2 with 15 knockouts, while Dacquel fell to 20-9-1 with six knockouts. Dacquel has los his last four fights. He lost all three fights in 2018 and was fighting for the first time in 2019.

Santisima, who’s currently rated No. 5 in the World Boxing Organzation (WBO) super bantamweight division, thinks he’s ready to fight for a world championship.

“I’ll wait for my chance at a world title. That’s my main target, to fight for a world championship,” Santisima told SunStar Cebu.

Santisima’s coach Edito Villamor has seen a lot of improvement from Santisima since his last fight, a quick first-round knockout of Alvius Maufani.

“We still saw something lacking in his game. But we have seen his maturity and craftiness that we haven’t seen in his previous fights,” he said.

However, Villamor believes that Santisima must be tested a little bit more before he’ll be fully ready to fight for a world title.

“If there’s a big opportunity that will come to face a top 10 fighter in the world, a former world champion or a former world title challenger then we’ll take it,” he said.

In the undercard, Pete Apolinar (11-1, 8 KOs) scored an eighth-round technical knockout of Lloyd Jardeliza (10-11-4, 6 KOs), Regie Suganob (4-0, 1 KO) beat Rolly Dorong (1-2-2) and Carlo Bacaro (5-0, 4 KOs) defeated Kelvin Tenorio (4-7, 2 KOs) by unanimous decision. (EKA)
