THE Bago City Arnis team, representing Area 4, emerged as overall champions in the recently-concluded 2019 Palarong Panlalawigan in the Arnis competition held at the Bacolod Arts Center.

The Bago City contingent hauled a total of 23 gold medals, 6 silver and 2 bronze medals for the combined elementary and secondary levels.

The elementary boys tallied 5 gold and silver medals while the girls got 6 gold and a silver medal while the secondary boys hauled 8 gold, a silver and a bronze medal, and the girls 4 gold, a pair of silver, and a bronze medal.

For coach Brian Martir, though their journey in the 2019 Provincial Meet has finally ended and now turned their focus to the forthcoming Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association meet in Aklan, their quest wouldn't be possible without the help of the City Government of Bago headed Mayor Nicholas Yulo and Vice Mayor Ramon Torres, DepEd Division of Bago City led by Schools Division Superintendent (SDS) Alan Yap and Assistant SDS Lynee Penaflor and Leo Dayot.

“Our gratitude also goes to City Sports Officer Ignacio Denila, who gave his full support as well as our Principal Jonaida Gasendo, the faculty, and staff of Ramon Torres National High School. Also our heartfelt thanks to Bago City Elementary School headed by its principal Richard Tanaman Sayco and its faculty and staff,” Martir said.

Martir also thanked the parents, friends, and relatives who tirelessly came every day to the venue to cheer and gave support.

“Above all to, I thanked our loving and gracious God for this achievement,” he said.

Settled over-all 1st runner-up in this event is Bacolod City with 10 gold, 20 silver and 8 bronze medal followed by Negros Occidental High School (Area 9) 3 gold, 8 silver, and 9 bronze medals.
