234 new soldiers to fight insurgency in NorMin, Caraga

A TOTAL of 234 newly-trained soldiers joined the Army’s 4th Infantry Division (4ID) to strengthen the government’s anti-insurgency campaign in Northern Mindanao and Caraga regions.

The new soldiers underwent military training and completed the jungle warfare mountain operations course.

“My family and my tribe is very proud that my son was able to graduate and became a soldier. The effort of the government in reaching out to the indigenous people is very important. We are very happy and we promise to help the government build a peaceful and progressive community,” Datu Efren Empinado of the Higaonon tribe from Barangay Banglay, Lagonglong, Misamis Oriental was quoted as saying.

4ID commander Major General Franco Nemesio Gacal said the new soldiers will not only be the people’s defenders, but also builders, peacemakers, farmers, teachers and “reliable partners of the people in peace and development”.

“The government, Filipino people and your families expect a lot from you. Consider yourselves as instrument of change for the betterment of the communities in the region. Never fail the people who have invested their trust in you. Let this serve as a reminder for you to find the courage and discipline to do what is right and just”, Gacal added.
