I CAN truly say that my passion in research day by day becomes stronger. I remember when I was a college student 20 years ago, I didn’t really understand the relevance of research in the nursing profession. Yes, I love to read, write, and speak but I never had thoughts about research becoming a part of my life.

So, last year, when I was informed to be one of the researchers for a collaborative study, I was quite hesitant because as a neophyte I am used to conducting research alone. But I was wrong - Ateneo de Davao University, the Davao Medical School Foundation Inc. and San Pedro College doing collaborative research was fun and challenging. Moreover, the guidance of Brisa Fuentes, RN, and Dr. Patria Manalaysay as consultants, provided helped us to grow in research and be determined to work harder.

Last December 10, 2019, we presented our research results on “Perspectives of Barangay Health Workers (BHW’s) on their roles, enablers and challenges on maternal, newborn, child health and nutrition” to guests from Department of Health, Davao Medical School Foundation Incorporation, and other health institutions.

Four emergent themes were derived from a total of 1,250 significant statements which are the eyes, ears, hands and heart of primary health care providers, advocates and navigators of the health care delivery system, surmounting wheels of adversities, and instruments of infinite hope.

It is so brilliant when group of researchers unitedly seek to discover or rediscover what is concealed as far as research is concerned. Collaborative research indeed can unveil multiple truths. Hail then to creating knowledge as a group.
