PERSONNEL of the City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) flagged down some public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers, not because of any traffic violation, but to give some items as part of their early Christmas gift.

CTTMO chief Dionisio Abude said the activity called the “Gift Giving of Goodwill”, which started on Saturday morning, December 14, is being conducted for the first time by their office.

He said the activity, which will be distributing 2,000 grocery packs everyday, is in partnership wtih CTTMO and the City Mayor’s Office.

The gift-giving activity trended on social media as drivers were surprised when they were asked to present their licenses and PUV Driver’s ID and their vehicle’s condition was inspected.

After passing the inspection, that is when CTTMO personnel reveal their purpose, and started distributing grocery items.

Abude personally gave the items to PUV drivers passing by along San Pedro Street.

Drivers, in some social posts, were surprised and happy with the items they received from the local government.

Abude said they will continuing their distribution in some parts of the city everyday until December 20.

“Personally ko nakigstorya kang Mayor (Sara Duterte-Carpio), if naa ta ipanghatag sa ‘tong mga driver. From there, naa sila’y gi-allot nga 10,000 ka grocery pack nga ipangdistribute (I personally talked to Mayor Sara, if we will be giving some item for our drivers. From there, they allotted 10,000 grocery pack for distribution),” he said.

The gift-giving activity came on the heels after traffic enforcer Rey Sison was killed while investigating a traffic accident.

“Amidst our sadness, the CTTMO personally reached out and interacted with the jeepney and taxi drivers of Davao for this gift-giving and goodwill outreach for road safety and orderliness. Thousands of gift packs await our PUV drivers along the road from the City Government of Davao and the CTTMO! [sic],” CTTMO said on its Facebook post. (RGL)
