THE Eagles captured their second straight championship in the Elite Basketball Club Cebu after they defeated the Tigers in the finals of Season 16, 85-80, at the Visayan Glass Gym on Sunday, December 15, 2019.

It was a tightly fought affair with neither team giving much of an inch to the other. In the end though, the collective experience and firepower of the team of businessman and sportsman, Mark Ynoc, proved too much to handle for the Tigers.

Former Cebu City Sharks wingman Ian Ortega led the Eagles in scoring with 20 points and was named as the Finals Most Valuable Player. Former University of the Visayas Green Lancers great Randy dela Pisa also had 17 points, 13 rebounds, two assists and two steals.

JL Manila and Jarred Nacasabog added 13 markers each to help propel the Eagles to the crown.

Jojie Bas led the Tigers with 19 points while Christopher Obeso added 17. Nino Obeso chipped in 14.

The Eagles booked their spot in the finals after defeating the Rams in the semifinals, 88-65, last Friday, December 13. Dela Pisa and Ortega were just as lethal in that game, tallying 21 and 16 points, respectively.

The Tigers on the other hand, ousted the Raptors with a 93-86 win in overtime. The Tigers led by 18 in the fourth period before the Raptors came all the way back to tie it at 83-all to send the game to the extra session. However, the Tigers just had too much firepower down the stretch to eke out the close win.

Juvan Tabay led the Tigers in that game with 19 points, five rebounds, six assists and three steals.

Meanwhile, Oliver Sanoy of the Rams took home the regular season MVP award while Dan Ofaga of the Hawks was the Most Improved Player award-winner.

Chito Solis of the Wolves was given the Sportsmanship Award. Japanese forward Shohei Horigo of the Eagles bagged the Defensive Player of the Season award.(SunStar Cebu)
