11 dead in vehicle crashes in Rizal, Cavite

ELEVEN persons were killed in separate vehicle crashes in Rizal and Cavite provinces in Calabarzon Tuesday, December 17.

In Cardona town in Rizal, nine persons were killed when three vehicles collided at around 5 a.m. Tuesday.

Five people were injured, including one who was in critical condition.

A report by the Cardona Police Office identified some of the fatalities as college students John Lester Lambrinto and Jan Brian Madaya as well as Maximo Julian Valencia, 60.

Based on initial investigation, police said a cargo truck traveling downhill in Barangay Looc at around 5 a.m. Tuesday lost its brakes and hit a jeepney in the opposite lane.

A dump truck which came from the diversion road also hit the jeepney.

In Mendez town in Cavite, two persons were killed while at least 20 others were injured when an 18-wheeler truck plowed through several vehicles at around 7:15 a.m. Tuesday.

A report by the Cavite Provincial Police Office identified the fatalities as Rolando Ligsa and Roger Santos.

Based on initial investigation, the truck which was transporting sand was on its way to Indang town.

Its driver, Romeo Sevilla, lost control of the vehicle after a mechanical malfunction. The truck hit several vehicles on its way in Barangay Poblacion 2.

Sevilla was also injured in the incident. He is under police custody.

Separate investigations are being conducted on the two incidents. (SunStar Philippines)
