Council approves City's 2020 P10.3-B budget

THE Davao City Council approved on Tuesday, December 17, the P10.3-billion budget for 2020.

Danilo Dayanghirang, head of the committee on finance, ways and means and appropriation, said the budget is higher than the P8.8 billion in 2019.

He said the increase in the budget for next year was due to the additional security personnel of the city and the medical assistance through the Lingap Para sa Mahirap.

"If you remember, ang tanang barangay gitagaan og Barangay Police Auxiliary kay sa kakulang sa atong police, ang kapitan gi-authorize nga mag hire og barangay auxiliary (Each barangay has a Barangay Police Auxiliary due to the lack of police personnel and the barangay captain was authorized to hire them)," Dayanghirang said.

About 40 percent of the budget, or P3 billion is allocated for the Office of the City Mayor, including its peace and order and the medical assistance components.

"Ang Lingap para sa Mahirap, naggahin tag P300 million, hapit usa ka milyon kada adlaw ang gigasto sa syudad sa Davao para lang sa medisina, plus naa pa gyuy kwarta nga ginahatag sa City Hall sa Lingap Para sa Mahirap ug Tapang at Malasakit (About P300 million was allocated for Lingap Para sa Mahirap as the City spends about P1 million every day for the medicines and financial assistance)," he said.

He said the funding, which will be collected next year, will come from the Internal Revenue Allotment comprising 54 percent or about P5.5 billion and the local taxes of P4.7 billion or 4.6 percent.
