Making children happy during holidays

WHAT a marvelous feeling to see children wearing their smiles this Christmas.

For them, it is with sheer joy every time they get to be surrounded with their favorite toys.

This is a Christmas atmosphere the Davao City Government wants to achieve this year: to make every children happy this holiday season.

As a tradition, the City Government, led by the City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO), organizes the annual Christmas festival, the Pasko Fiesta.

Being a "child-friendly city" for years now, this inspired the city to highlight Christmas festival to children. Thus, they pursued the concept of Santa's Toy Factory.

This year's Pasko Fiesta features colorful Christmas lights and decorations, soulful Christmas carols, and classic entertainment.

CTOO head Generose Tecson said the idea of this year's theme was conceptualized by Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

"The mayor wanted to have a toy factory theme because when we remember Christmas, we remember the joyful smiles of the children every time they receive gifts," she said.

Tecson shared how this will bring joy to the Dabawenyos especially the children.

Since its opening last December 22, some part of the city have been spruced up with gift boxes and robots, adding liveliness not only to children, but also to the children-at-heart.

The rain did not stop the crowd from witnessing the opening which showcased powerful performances and entertainment. Capping off the event was a 3D lighting presentation at the City Hall facade.

The Pasko Fiesta filled with some music, dance, and traditional events such as Lamdag Parada and Kahayag sa Dabaw, also added vibrance to the celebration.

She said since the city has also been known to be child-friendly, Pasko Fiesta will have free amusement rides and ice cream cones for the children. Santa Claus will also be roaming around the parks in the city.

"We chose the Toy Factory theme because Pasko is for kids and the kids at heart. We hope that this display will make the children of Davao City happy, and bring smile across the faces of both the young and the young at heart," Tecson said.

In the midst of everything, she also said it is also a time to be reminded that Christmas is the time for giving and sharing our blessings especially to those in need.
