Foreigners need clearance to visit PMA

FOREIGN tourists who wish to visit the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) in Baguio City will need to secure clearance.

In a public advisory issued December 9, all foreign tourists need to seek clearance two weeks prior to the date of the visit and present the letter stating the purpose, date and time of visit, clear copy of passport/s, and include name/s of Filipino companion/s.

Captain Cheryl Tindog, PMA spokesperson, said securing of clearance is in compliance with the policies, guidelines and procedures that emanated from the Department of National Defense governing the visits of foreign nationals in all military installations, offices, units and areas of operations including PMA.

The guidelines were set in the 80s and was recently updated in January.

“This is a standard operating procedure that all AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) units and camps including PMA should strictly adhere to and implement,” added Tindog.

She said PMA is open to all Filipinos who wish to visit daily from 8 a.m. to 5p.m. and need to present valid IDs and abide by the security protocols and procedures of the camp.

Meanwhile, visits may be halted whenever there are command activities and other eventualities that will require the use of the camp exempting civilian visitors.

The academy, she added usually advice the City Tourism Office and public whenever Fort Gregorio del Pilar will be closed to visitors.
