THE music instructor killed by motorcycle-riding assailants in Barangay Matab-ang, Talisay City, Sunday, December 15, may have been a case of mistaken identity.
This finding is based on the investigation conducted by the Talisay City police.
Police Lieutenant Ray Cordero, deputy police chief of Talisay City, said when they interviewed the family and friends of 49-year-old Melvin Arnel Borja, the victim did not have enemies nor did he receive prior threats.
Cordero said the victim was described to be a good person and was even active in the local church choir.
A background check was also performed and the victim was not involved in any illegal activities and did not have any records with law enforcement.
Cordero added they will review a copy of the closed-circuit television footage submitted by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, which maintains a district jail 200 meters away from the crime scene.
Earlier on Sunday, Borja was gunned down while on his way home aboard a tricycle.
Authorities recovered four unidentified caliber shells from the crime scene. (TDE)
