Cops scan CCTV footage for businessman slay clues

THE Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) already obtained a copy of the closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage that could lead to the identities of the perpetrators in the killing of Roberto “Kaisek” Tan along CL Montelibano Avenue in Greensville 1 Subdivision in Barangay Estefania, Bacolod City on Sunday, December 15.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Ariel Pico, spokesperson of BCPO, said Tuesday, December 17, the investigators of Police Station 4 are now reviewing the CCTV footages to determine the identities of the suspects in the killing of Tan, the elder brother of former Bacolod councilor Ricardo “Cano” Tan.

“For now, we are checking it (CCTV) if it’s clear to identify the suspects,” he said.

He added the investigators are also coordinating with the other business establishments near the area to check more CCTVs.

On Sunday, Roberto Tan, 70, a businessman and resident of Dona Aurora, Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod City, was driving his Nissan Sentra car when one of two motorcycle riding men shot him dead at 9:45 a.m. along CL Montelibano Avenue in Greensville 1 subdivision in Barangay Estefania, Bacolod City.

The motorcycle overtook the victim’s car. The assassin fired six times before he and his driver fled towards the west. Tan died on the spot.

Police recovered from the scene of the crime a bullet and five empty shells of .45 caliber.

Pico said they still have very limited information to determine the motive in the killing of the victim.

“We are gathering our evidences to identify and arrest the suspects,” he said.

Colonel Henry Binas, director of Bacolod City Police Office, earlier said that they are conducting a thorough investigation if the killing of Kaisek was related to the ambush of his younger brother former Bacolod councilor Ricardo Tan in Barangay Alangilan, Bacolod last year.

“We are conducting an investigation if the killing of Kaisek was connected in the ambush of the former councilor in the city last year. We are investigating all the possible angles in the killing of the victim including personal grudges, illegal drugs and business,” he said.

In 2018, former councilor Tan was also ambushed along with his wife. Both were wounded, but survived the attack.

Binas said it’s also a public knowledge that the former councilor was earlier mentioned by President Rodrigo Duterte as among the local government officials who were allegedly involved in illegal drugs.
