Former drug dependents earn P1M from ‘Tabo’ in 2019

FORMER drug dependents undergoing the aftercare program through the Community-Based Drug Rehabilitation Program (CBDRP) have earned more than P1 million during their monthly tabo activity in 2019, a 23 percent increase in their sales compared to last year’s.

In 2019, the overall total sales of the monthly tabo activity participated by 37 CBDRP groups from various barangays reached P1,067,111.53, compared to 2018’s P821,675.88.

The monthly Tabo (market), a week-long activity held every third week of the month, not only supports the recovery of the drug dependents but also aims to support the villages in their aftercare program. This is a venue for drug dependents to sell products available in their villages, or even products they made on their own.

Among the CBDRP groups, Carmen Village got the highest amount of sales at P312,235, followed by the CBDRP group composed of villages 1 to 20 at P220,890.

Apart from the rise in the total amount of sales, the number of respondents supporting the activity also increased from 30 in 2018 to 60 in 2019.

The local government also turned over P34,000 to 17 participating villages as a startup capital for their businesses.

The CBDRP-Aftercare Program Monthly Tabo Activity, spearheaded by the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council and Oro Citizen’s Wellness and Development Center, is a program to help the recovering drug responders earn through livelihood.
