Indigenous materials embellish Silay’s Christmas village

SILAY City is incredible day and night citing its impressive Christmas village colorfully adorning its public plaza.

This city has earned the appellation as the Paris of Negros with the existence of numerous well-kept ancestral houses that affirm the remarkable lifestyle of Silaynons, past and present.

Silay City Mayor Mark Andrew Golez and his fellow officials were beaming with pride in heightening the city’s means of celebrating Christmas with its people.

The city government has encouraged the participation of the barangays, department of education and the city employees to assist the city in setting up a beautiful Christmas village that is considered a sight to behold.

The participating agencies put up nativity sceneries made of indigenous materials.

There is a huge Christmas tree at the center of the public plaza.

Mayor Golez felt gratified with the support and cooperation of the barangays, DepED, and the city’s employees.

The Silay City Hall was flickered with Christmas lights and decors.

There were 16 villages which participated in the Christmas tree competition; 10 schools for the Christmas Belen competition.

The winners of the Christmas tree competition were: 1st place- brgy.4, 2nd place-brgy. Guinhalaran, and 3rd place-brgy. Guimbalaon.

Christmas Belen - 1st place is Brgy. Guimbalaon Elem. School; 2nd place is Silay South Elem. School, 3rd place is Silay North Elem School.

The Christmas lantern parade winners include 1st - Doña Montserrat Lopez Memorial High School; 2nd runner up is Mambag-id Elem. School and 3rd runner up is Doña Angeles J. Montinola Memorial National High School.

For the Carol competition high school category, 1st runner up went to Don Felix Lacson National High School; 2nd runner up was Doña Montserrat Lopez Memorial High School and 3rd runner up was Violeta Integrated School.
