A 14-YEAR-OLD student was seriously injured after an M203 ammunition accidentally exploded in Laoang, Northern Samar Thursday, December 19.
Initial investigation revealed that while the victim and his friend were playing along the side of the river in Barangay Rombang, Laoang town at 12 noon Thursday, they found a pink backpack containing the M203 ammunition.
As both of them were curious about the object, the victim smashed it at the coconut tree, resulting in the explosion.
The victim sustained a serious wound on the stomach, police said.
The Laoang Municipal Police Station, led by Staff Sergeant Elizer Diu, under the supervision of Lieutenant Nelson Lapeciros, responded to the incident.
The teenager was brought to Laoang District Hospital and later referred to Northern Samar Provincial Hospital for further medical attention.
