THE Bacolod City Council approved a resolution requesting the Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) to reconsider their “One Bill Policy.”
The resolution, authored by Councilor Simplicia Distrito, was approved during the regular session of the City Council on Wednesday, December 18.
Distrito said Ceneco recently reminded its member-consumers of their strict implementation of the “One Bill Policy.”
She said the One Bill Policy provides that member-consumer-owners (MCOs) must settle their electricity bill within nine days after it was rendered to them and failure to do so would mean that the account becomes past due.
“The implementation of the said policy is seen to be disadvantageous to the low income earners of the city for the reason that the number of days provided in the policy to settle the bill is a short period given that they have to struggle first before they can get money to pay for it,” she added.
Distrito noted that they are requesting the Ceneco Board and Management to reconsider the One Bill Policy by conducting consultation with the consumers and to possibly come up with various payment methods or to extend the given period.
“A lot of our constituents in the City, who are also consumers of Ceneco, are clamoring about the said policy since according to them the policy seems so sudden that there was no consultation done where they can also air out their concerns and sentiments over the said policy,” Distrito said. (MAP)
