Eastern Visayas police turn over 1,134 firearms

A TOTAL of 1,134 units of firearms and one police mobile were turned over to different police units in Eastern Visayas to support the "operational readiness" in the law enforcement in the region.

"The equipment will greatly contribute on strengthening our internal security operations and will help intensify the operational readiness of our men in the ground," said Brigadier General Ferdinand Divina, director of Police Regional Office (PRO)-Eastern Visayas, during the recently concluded turnover ceremony at the police headquarters in Palo, Leyte.

The new firearms include 900 units of 9mm pistol "Canik" Striker Fired, 189 units of 9mm pistol "Tisas" Striker Fired, and 45 units of 9mm pistol "Taurus" Striker Fired.

The ISO equipment were turned over to different police provincial and city offices, Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB), and all provincial and city mobile forces.

Meanwhile, one unit of newly repaired Toyota Hi-lux was turned over to Regional Explosive and Canine Unit (Recu)-Eastern Visayas personnel.

Divina has directed all the recipients "to take proper care and maintenance of the said equipment to ensure proficiency on its operational usage thus avoid malfunctions." (SunStar Philippines)
