TO MAKE pyrotechnic products more accessible to the public, the Cebu City Market Authority (CCMA) transferred the firecracker zone to a portion along F. Vestil St. in Barangay Mambaling near the SM Seaside City.
CCMA Administrator Jonil Matuguina said his office decided to relocate the vendors of firecrackers from their old place at the South Road Properties near the bridge that connects the cities of Talisay and Cebu as it was far. As of Friday, Dec. 20, 2019, 17 qualified vendors are selling firecrackers in the new area, which has a bigger parking space for private vehicles.
Smoking cigarettes and lighting firecrackers are not allowed in the firecracker zone, as doing so would endanger the public, said Matuguina
As there is no other firecracker zone in the city, Matuguina said his office will confiscate the firecrackers sold in public markets and other areas. The confiscated products will be turned over to the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO).
Matuguina said the CCPO, Prevention, Restoration, Order, Beautification and Enhancement team, and the City Market Division will inspect the markets on a regular basis to confiscate illegal firecrackers. (JJL)
