A VILLAGE captain and two others were killed in a head-on collision between a Canter truck and a sports utility vehicle on Saturday, December 21, in Abuyog, Leyte.

The victims were identified as Peter Japson, driver and captain of Libertad Village in Abuyog town, and his passenger Evelyn Japson, and Ins Malang, a resident of Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao who was a passenger of another vehicle.

Police said Japson was driving his white Canter truck with Evelyn and three other passengers from Abuyog to Baybay City when a Toyota Fortuner driven by Sala Abusamah with Malang and two other passengers from an opposite direction crashed into Japson’s vehicle.

The incident happened at around 10:30 a.m., along Barangay Balinsasayao in Abuyog.

According to the responding policemen, Abusamah was traveling in fast speed and ran into the flooded part of the road due to heavy rain that resulted him to have lost control of his vehicle and encroached the lane of the incoming truck driven by Japson.

Both drivers and their passengers were brought to Abuyog District Hospital for immediate attention. However, Japson, his passenger Evelyn, and Malang were declared dead on arrival by the attending physician, Dr. Caroline Jurnales.(SunStar Philippines)
