What abandoned children want this Christmas

WHILE many children dream of holiday feast with their favorite food and toys from their ninongs, ninangs, and love ones this Christmas, there are those who wish just love and belongingness from their own family, something some children take for granted.

Like the children in Field of Dreams Children’s Charity Foundation, who are mostly former street kids, rugby users, and scavengers, their common Christmas wish apart from material things is continued support for their holistic development.

“Most of their Christmas wishes are pants, shirts, and shoes - black and rubber shoes. But behind these material wishes, these kids really want to be reunited with their real family. But they’re a product of broken families and some are unwanted of the new families of their parents,” Lalaine Valdehuesa Dagus, executive director of the Field of Dreams Children’s Charity Foundation said.

The Field of Dreams Children’s Charity Foundation is an organization established since 2007. For 12 years, it has produced 28 graduates now into independent living.

“We cater [to] 30 abandoned orphaned and indigent (all) boys ages 3 to 18 upon admission,” she shared.

The children under their care usually undergo intervention and counselling.

“We want to replicate normal life for them to experience,” Dagus added.

With the organization’s ultimate goal that is provide a haven for homeless children, more underprivileged children will experience a comprehensive external recreational facilities thereby enriching the children’s lives.
