THE Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (RDRRMC) Davao issued an advisory for the close monitoring of the Low-Pressure Area (LPA) inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) that will affect areas in Davao Region.
On Saturday, December 21, RDRRMC Director and Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Davao regional director Manuel Luis Ochotorena, released the advisory addressed to all provincial, municipal and City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office chairpersons concerning the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Service Administration Regional Weather Forecast on LPA.
LPA was estimated at 505 kilometer east southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur as of 3 a.m. on December 21. Caraga and Davao region will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and isolated thunderstorms due to the trough of the low pressure area.
"You are hereby advised to conduct close monitoring on the landslide and flood-prone areas including river systems in your respective area of responsibility and implement precautionary measure if necessary during any impending threat due to the current weather system affecting the region," said Office of Civil Defense regional director Manuel Luis Ochotorena.
As of 6 a.m. on December 22, the low-pressure area was estimated at 65 km south-southwest of Davao City, Davao del Sur easterlies affecting the Eastern Section of the country.
Based on their Pag-asa's forecast, expect a light to moderate rains and thunderstorms. Some watercourse in Davao Oriental, Davao del Sur, Davao del Norte, Davao Occidental, and Compostela Valley will likely be affected, thus, people living near the mountains and in the low lying areas in identified river systems and the local disaster risk reduction and management council concerned are still advised to be alert for possible flash floods.
