AIMING to help improve the transportation system and reduce pollution in Cebu City, a South Korea-based company proposed the use of electric trucks or e-trucks.
Representatives of DPECO Inc., a firm based in Gwan-do in South Korea, visited Mayor Edgardo Labella on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2019, to discuss the use of environment-friendly vehicles.
The e-trucks, which will be powered by electricity instead of gas, are being offered as a mass transport option.
Labella said he liked the concept but there are other things that need to be looked into such as the electricity consumption.
He also discussed with the company officials the Integrated Intermodal Traffic System that is set to be implemented in Metro Cebu, which includes different mass transport options.
“We will make a study on that. Everything should be well coordinated so as not to cause or worsen the traffic congestion,” said Labella.
He referred the proposal to the joint venture selection committee for review and discussions on what kind of partnership the City could enter into with the firm.
“It may be public-private partnership or a joint venture. Let’s see what will be beneficial to the City and to the public,” said Labella. (JJL)
